Carlou D

Icon of music in Senegal, Ibrahima Loucard, alias Carlou D, was born on September 13, 1979 in Dakar. After drinking jazz, bluss and salsa during childhood, he left school as a teenager to devote himself to music. He will take his first steps alongside Ska Blues then will become a member of the very popular rap group Positive Black Soul (PBD) alongside Didier Awadi, before embarking on a solo career, which will propel him to the front of the stage. as a musician, singer, author and composer.

In 2004, his first album “Séédé” met with great success on the continent. Subsequently, Carlou D evolves towards variety and further highlights his growing interest in Mouridism. Baye fall convinced, Carlou D is an unconditional disciple of Cheikh Amadou Bamba, the founder of Mouridism. Signed by the World Music label in London, he released “Muzikr” in 2010, an album that connects modern music to “zikr”, spiritual songs from Sufism.

 

Since then, this history buff, who never lets go of his acoustic guitar, continues to tour, in Senegal and internationally, with an audience seduced by his Afro-folk style, his philosophy of peace and his free expression from the hip-hop world.
