Originally from Montreal (Canada), with strong Hungarian roots, Sophie Lukacs is a singer-songwriter. During her childhood, she trained on the violin and learned Western classical music. But a chance trip to Burkina Faso changed his musical direction. She discovered the kora, a 21-stringed harp-lute from the Mandingo empire. She decided to move to Bamako (Mali) to study with a living legend of this instrument: Toumani Diabaté. The initiation will last seven years. During this period, she will perform regularly alongside Malian superstars such as Vieux Farka Touré and Habib Koité. In 2024, she received the “Global Music album of the year” prize awarded by the Canadian folk music awards.
